Preventive medical examinations for children
The development of vision occurs in children mostly until six years of age. During this development phase, even small defects of vision can lead to irreversible amblyopia (weak-sightedness) that cannot be treated in adult age any more. Early diagnosis and treatment are therefore essential.
Preventive examinations include orthoptic tests (see also Orthoptics) as well as a slit lamp exam and a funduscopy / ophthalmoscopy (see also General Check-up). Depending on these, additional specialised diagnostics may be necessary.
